From July 2017 through March 2020, I was responsible for the planning, marketing, coordination, and execution of the Garden City Chamber of Commerce Friday Night Promenades, a recurring, free community event series presented in partnership with the Village of Garden City. Held every other Friday from late spring through mid-September, the Promenades transformed Seventh Street in the heart of Garden City Village into a vibrant pedestrian-only destination celebrating local businesses, live entertainment, dining, and community connection.
Each Promenade was designed as a themed open-air street experience, featuring live music, outdoor dining and restaurant specials from Seventh Street establishments, vendor and sponsor activations, community and nonprofit organization tents, giveaways, and interactive programming for families, including balloon art and face painting. Tables and seating were strategically placed throughout the closed street to encourage lingering, socializing, and increased foot traffic for participating businesses.
In addition to overall event leadership, I directed all marketing and promotional strategy for the series. This included the design, creation, and distribution of all graphic assets, such as event branding, posters, digital flyers, social media graphics, sponsor recognition materials, on-site signage, and wayfinding. I managed social media marketing across platforms, developing content calendars, promotional campaigns, and real-time event coverage to drive attendance and sustain momentum throughout each season.
I also oversaw sponsor promotion and recognition, ensuring that partner visibility was thoughtfully integrated across pre-event marketing, on-site signage, digital assets, and social media distribution. Working closely with merchants, sponsors, performers, and municipal partners, I coordinated logistics, permits, street closures, vendor placement, and on-site operations to ensure each event was executed safely, efficiently, and with a consistent, high-quality guest experience.
The Friday Night Promenades became a cornerstone of Garden City’s summer cultural calendar, strengthening downtown vitality, increasing foot traffic for local businesses, and reinforcing the Chamber’s role as a central facilitator of community-driven programming.
